I took the family out
for a few hours to catch catfish and bream in a local pond. We used a big
ice chest as a make-do livewell. Two-year-old Reid likes to fill it up
with water using a pump and watches the fish swim around for a while.
Jimmy came to visit with Snick the chocolate lab, that is when things got
interesting. Mary and Anna were fighting an 11 1/4 lb catfish on 4 lb test
line using an ultra-light we were bream fishing with. Reid was squirting
Snick with the water pump. Snick found the fish in the livewell and was
fishing for catfish like a Kodiak bear fishes for Salmon. The bream in the
livewell were jumping for their lives.

The kids enjoyed catching frogs in the yard when we first moved here. But it didn't take long before they wanted to fish. |
Anna caught some big ones. |
No catfish could resist her charm. |
This was Reid's first time to see catfish this big. |
Bream better suites his style for now. |
This 12 lber Anna caught is bigger than any catfish I've caught in my life. Not bad for a 6 year old. |
Snick found the livewell and decided he'd go fishing too. |
Reid was nice enough to give him a bath while he tried to escape with his prize. |

While Jimmy tried to coax Snick into dropping the catfish, Reid takes care of the bream that are jumping out of the livewell... |
...meanwhile Mary continues to her epic battle with the monster catfish hooked on an ultra light with a cricket hook. |
Jimmy did everything he could to help the catfish out... |
...and he finally got away. |

Mary and Anna catch their 11 1/4 lber on 4 lb test. Impressive! |
