Lay Lake Pictures
By: Bo
Recounted from 4/21/1997.
We started out late (as usual) and when we got to the launch guys were taking
out telling stories of catching stripe on every cast using chartreuse grubs at
the mouth of Kelly Creek. But they said the bite died in late morning.
As I recall it was a overcast day with the temperature in the 60s. We fished
under Logan Martin dam on the west side of the Ratcliff’s island. They ran a
good amount of current all day. We caught the fish using Carolina Rigged finesse
worms in redbug. I must have retied 20 times that day. I believe it is around
the time of Mark’s tournament, if not the day of the tournament. I remember we
discussed this when we weighed the fish because we would have won a check had we
been in the tournament. Fishing Lay Lake was tougher then than it is now. Our
biggest 7 was 17 lbs. Our biggest 10 was 20 lb 11 oz. Quite a respectable
stringer.
PS: We ate every one of these contaminated babies...
