Bo

Went fishing out of  Venice on Saturday and Sunday.   I didn't get down there until late Saturday and was pressed for time.  My plan was to explore the marsh to escape the wind and try to find some shallow fish.  The river was rough for my little 18' flat bottom boat!  The entire boat was sprayed heavily and some wakes even broke over my bow drenching my boat.  The jarring was knocking all kinds of things loose in my boat.  I was running way back towards Flat Boat Pass when I looked down and saw that my GPS wasn't working.  GULP.

Knowing how easy it is to get turned around in all that cane I started concentrating more on getting home than catching fish.  A nice group in a Skeeter bay boat came by and I asked them where I was.  They informed me that I was not where I thought I was.  At that time I thought it wise to stick to the main passes where I was certain to avoid getting lost.  I didn't end up catching anything.  I love the fact that you can buy liquor in gas stations in Louisiana.  That night after a couple of scotches I mentally accepted the fact that I would be fishing without a GPS on Sunday.

On Sunday I got on the water at 7:05.  Wind was calm and it was a perfect day.   I ran down towards South Pass and stopped at any bayou or cut-through that suited my fancy.  The redfish seemed to be scattered, but using a Rattletrap I caught a fish here and a fish there.  Before long I had my limit of reds and one flounder.  Then I switched to a bayou chub minnow and a swimin' image I started catching trout.  By 12:00 I had a limit.  I spent another couple of hours bumping the bottom for flounder but couldn't find any takers.

This is the first time I've ever caught a limit of reds and a limit of specks in the same day using artificial lures only.  I have been working on this for years and finally did it.  Venice in October certainly lived up to its reputation.
