We had the first annual “Lose Your Lure” challenge at Upper Lay Lake, “The River” as we all call it. Participants included Bo Crawford, Lance Granger, Skip Davis, Bill Greene and Shawn Johnston. After finding out that Bo slept at the Huddle House Skip and I sat down for a quick breakfast. Bo Crawford had gotten to breakfast at 4:00am. We all got to the launch and took off about 5:15. Boats headed in all different directions. It was a tough day for some and a personal record for others. Skip and Lance fished together as “Solo” partners. We fished up north closer to the dam along with Bo. Bill and Shawn headed south. Shawn filled the winning bag with an early morning buzzbait. We also seemed to have a late bite turn on in the last hour or so. We had great weather and they ran current fairly consistently. We had some decent bags for this time of year. If only I had thought of doing a stripe tournament. They were out of control. Anyway, a great time was had by all. As usual, Lance learned a lot while Bo and Bill seemed to have things wrapped up (Bill confidently taking Bo by close to a couple of pounds). Then Shawn stepped up with a nice 10lb 11oz sack to take the win. As the winner Shawn was able to pick two lures from each participant out of a predetermined “lure stash”. It was painful to see those beauties change hands. Congrats Shawn, enjoy the many Luck Crafts.
