EVENT: SMITH LAKE WILDCAT, PART DEUX
DATE: FRIDAY AUGUST 21, 2009
TIME: 8:00 PM to 3:00 AM
On Friday August 21, 2009, TMT Anglers Club held a Wildcat tournament on beautiful, but humbling, Smith Lake. Our tourney dubbed, Smith Lake Wildcat, Part Deux was hosted by Jason "C-Rig" Mitchell, and featured 3 boats. Team PackRat made up of Jason Mitchell and Skip Davis, Team Crawford made up of Bo Crawford and our newest perspective member Bill Ledbetter, and Team Jack Daniels made up of none other than Bill Greene and Russell Fackler. Everyone arrived at our accommodation headquarters by 6:00 pm or so for some pre-tourney beer and burgers and to discuss how the hell we were gonna catch fish after a 3 hour monsoon. After an interesting 30 minutes of pulling Team Crawford from the water logged yard and mud, everyone was launched at the dam and blasting off at roughly 8:30 pm. Conditions were tough in that a post front was present with falling temperatures and no breeze whatsoever. An absolute perfect set up for Smith Lake "lockjaw". At the scales, all 3 teams discussed their strategies of the evening and the infinite number of lures used, tactics tried, and future need for dynamite. Team PackRat weighed 0 fish for 0 pounds. Quite embarrassing. Team Jack Daniels also weighed a whopping 0 fish for 0 pounds. Quite unbelievable. And then Team Crawford stepped up with 2 nice "overs" ( fish measuring over the 13"-16" lake slot ). 1 weighing 2 lbs. even the other weighing 3 lbs. 14 oz. Quite the usual. Team Crawford took home a 70% paycheck for heaviest stringer, 20% paycheck for big fish, and Bo Crawford took home a 10% check for the "repay Bo Crawford fund". Fishing was tough. Pulling trucks and boats from the mud was tough. But hanging with the club was fun as always. Thanks to those that participated and congrats to Bo Crawford and Bill Ledbetter for their victory.
Sincerely,
Jason Mitchell, Host for the tourney
