Lake Mitchell, Alabama

July 19, 2010

TMTanglers returned to scenic Lake Mitchell for our annual summer tournament.  Lake Mitchell has hosted our summer tournament several times in the past, always yielding favorable results.  Accommodations were once again provided by Cedar Cove Rentals, a TMTangler favorite.

For a summertime night tournament the conditions were not that bad...clear water with air temp highs in the low 90s and lows in the low 70s.  A pleasant southerly breeze with occasional thunderstorm.  These are basically ideal conditions for summertime night time fishing...or so we thought!

The fishing turned out to be very tough!

How tough was it?  1st place went to Damon Abernathy and Bo Crawford with a TWO DAY weight  of 13-09.   That is correct---the BEST weight in our club averaged less than 7 lbs a day.  This is highly unusual for Lake Mitchell and highly unusual for TMTanglers regardless of where or when we are fishing.

On the bright side, big fish was won by Bill Greene with a respectable 3-09 spot.  Our "trash fish" contest was close with a 8-10 freshwater drum narrowly losing to a 9-11 saltwater stripe.  The stripe is the largest trash fish ever caught in an official TMTangler tournament.  Congrats to Jason Mitchell on your excellent catch!

TMTanglers is hoping to field a six man team in the Federation Nation Southern Team Shootout on Lake Wheeler in late September, followed by our fall tournament on Millers Ferry on October 9.
