LAKE JORDAN

After one of the coldest winters on record here in Alabama, TMTanglers headed to Lake Jordan for a tournament on Good Friday. Only two boats fished (not entirely unusual for a TMTangler Wildcat); Team Inglorious Bastards with Jason Mitchell and Stuart Payne, and Bo Crawford with prospective member Howard Keith. Bo and Howard were not sly enough to come up with a clever team name.
The weather was a perfect spring day. Air Temp low in the low 50s, highs in the low 80s. Water temp ranged from 57-68 based on what I saw. Blue bird skies with light wind. Full moon was four days before the tournament. For a change the water clarity on the Coosa River was goldilocks, ie. not too clear, not too dirty, just the right stain.
The teams launched at the newly refurbished Bonners ramp. The ramps are very nice and I am certain the parking lot to match will be completed soon.
The Inglorious Bastards were fishing Lake Jordan for the first time in almost forever. They started out fishing the community holes near the Lake Bouldin canal and struggled, (while watching the locals catch them). They were unable to find many cooperating fish after that.
Bo and Howard concentrated on fishing the warmer waters away from the main river. They did not catch a fish during the prime morning bite. After that they grinded it out and concentrated on bedding fish. There were more spots locked on beds than I have ever seen. Bo lost five catchable fish that would have helped their stinger, two of whom bounced on Might Boat II's gunnel before falling back in the lake. Howard missed some as well, but was also able to cull a few peanuts they had caught earlier in the day with sissy sticks. All fish caught on plastics fished painfully slow.
Neither team was able to put together a bag that accurately represents what Lake Jordan has to offer.
All members participating in this Wildcat received valuable AOY points that help in the FLY ROD chase sponsored by Culprit.
