Time to drive to Oklahoma and blow up an electronics factory (just kidding government employee reading this). Got the depth finder back today. A) it is obviously a refurb unit. A small scratch or two on the case, no biggie but I am not happy about it. B) I take it out to the garage and hook it up, powers up. So it has that going for it. C) I notice there is like this hairy plastic stuff peeling away where the front and back seam is, no biggie I peel it off. It is probably some kind of epoxy they use to hold it together. D) That problem makes me look closer. I notice what look like a bunch of hairline cracks. The 10 screws around the case that secure front and back have been overtightened and have cracked the case in ten distinct places.
You could have heard my scream from 3 blocks away. I didn't actually open the box until after business hours so I couldn't call which is a good thing for whoever is unfortunate enough to take my phone call. I gave Navico the benefit of the doubt that things would get better. This deal is so obvious. "Quality Control" COULD NOT have missed it if they just looked at the unit.
I am so close to putting this thing on ebay if I ever get a new one back. My phone call will be simple. Send me a brand new in the box unit, no refurb and no lip.
